About CAP

The Civil Air Patrol is the Auxiliary to the United States Air Force. Chartered in 1941, its original mission was to provide aerial patrols during World War II, looking for German submarines on the Atlantic coast, as well as spotting survivors of sunken vessels. Pilots of the era even took it to the next step and dropped depth charges, sinking two submarines and damaging many others.

After WWII, CAP’s mission was realigned to include the triple missions of the Cadet Program, Emergency Services, and Aerospace Education. Click the links below to get more information about each mission.

For more about the history of Civil Air Patrol, feel free to visit the CAP National Headquarters website HERE, and be sure to click “For More Information…” at the end of that article for, well, more information! Additionally, there is an outstanding article on Wikipedia.org about Civil Air Patrol, which you can read HERE.
